Conclusions

The Good

• only requires one picture!
• can work with video
• reasonably accurate range data
• easy to set up

The Bad

• limited resolution
• it's hard to identify all of the grid points
• occlusions and shadows mess things up
• it would be hard to do multiple views simultaneously
• doesn't work on all surfaces (especially fuzzy ones)
• impossible to unify disjoint sections (unless you use color patterns)
