Momir Basic

With the arrival of the Momir Vig avatar on Magic Online, you can have a fun game with a deck containing only basic lands. However, this format is pretty impractical to play with real cards, without Magic Online to choose the random creature for you. Until now! Click on of the buttons below to get a pop-up of a random creature with that converted mana cost. The creatures are selected from all cards in the Oracle database, not just the online cards.

Updated January 29, 2007: Now with Planar Chaos!

After playing this format a little, we've changed the rules a little to make the games more interesting. Instead of being an activated ability, we play so that you can play any card in your hand as a creature spell, and the card permanently becomes a random creature spell as it goes on the stack. That way, Phage doesn't kill you, sunburst is relevant, and creatures can return to your hand or from the graveyard (e.g., Ashen Ghoul works). On the other hand, Azorius Guildmage, Dogged Hunter, and Desecration Elemental are not the huge bombs that they are online. We're also experimenting with removing the "once per turn" restriction... doesn't seem to cause any huge problems so far.

Have fun!
